A man in his 70s has died after his car left the road and went down an embankment, crashing onto a North Yorkshire railway line.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon (Friday 18 July) at around 3:19pm, when police were called to reports of a car on the railway line near Stray Rein in Harrogate.
Emergency services attended and found a silver VW Golf on the tracks with the man still inside. Despite the best efforts of emergency crews, the driver was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
North Yorkshire Police have confirmed that the man’s family is being supported by specialist officers during this difficult time.
It’s believed the vehicle was travelling on York Place when it left the road and went down the embankment onto the railway.
Officers are now appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage taken in the area, to come forward as a matter of urgency.
