The much-anticipated Thai restaurant, Giggling Squid, will open on Monday (4 August).
It was back in February 2024 when YorkMix first revealed that the restaurant chain would be taking over the historic former Banks Music Room on Lendal.
After a major investment and a complete makeover, the restaurant is preparing to welcome its first diners.
At YorkMix we’ve had a sneak preview of the new venue – and as you can see, it looks fabulous.
To celebrate the opening, the York restaurant is offering 50% off food during its opening week for all pre-booked guests.
Spaces are limited to help the newly established York team settle in and will be exclusively available to those who sign up to become a ‘Giggler’ via the website.
The restaurant held a VIP launch party on Yorkshire Day (Friday) – with the special event including traditional Thai dancers, fruit carvings, DJ sets, Thai canapes, bubbles, and more treats.

Giggling Squid can host 213 guests across two floors, and features founder Pranee Laurillard’s trademark floral wallpapers, banquette seating and lighting features.
The lunch menu offers Samrub Sets priced from £12.95, with four hearty individual portions of menu favourites, for when you can’t decide on one thing.
The One Big Dish section offers a full meal from £11.75 including favourites such as Pad Thai and Thai Green Curry, catering for those who want something quick and delicious on a lunch break. And there’s plenty of Thai noodles and noodle soups to choose from, as the ultimate comfort foods.
The all-day main menu features guest favourites such as Salt & Pepper Squid, Massaman Curry and Thai Melting Beef alongside a great variety for non-meat eaters, with almost half the menu suitable for vegetarians.

A wide takeaway menu will also be available a few weeks after opening for click & collect or telephone orders as well as delivery through Deliveroo.
