Two teenagers arrested after high-speed pursuit on A1 motorway

Two teenagers have been arrested following a high-speed police pursuit that reached speeds of over 100mph on the A1(M).

In the early hours of yesterday morning (Tuesday), North Yorkshire Police officers attempted to intercept a Skoda Kodiaq that had been reported stolen.

The vehicle was spotted travelling southbound on the A1(M) at around 12.45am. When officers tried to stop it, the driver failed to comply, rammed police vehicles, and accelerated to speeds well over 100mph.

The pursuit continued until the vehicle left the motorway at junction 42 near Selby and was driven the wrong way down a slip road. Before it could go any further,  officers managed to bring the car to a stop.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested at the scene, while a 19-year-old man was arrested nearby a short time later.

Both were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and failing to stop. The woman was also arrested on suspicion of possession of drug driving and possession of cannabis.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed that the pair remain in custody while enquiries continue.
