Two teenagers have been arrested following a police pursuit in Harrogate during the early hours of this morning.
At around 2:40 am today (Friday), North Yorkshire Police received reports from CCTV operators that a group had been drinking before driving away on The Ginnel in Harrogate.
Officers located the vehicle weaving along Parliament Street and, following a short pursuit, brought it to a stop.
The driver, a 17-year-old-girl, was detained at the scene. However, the male passenger became obstructive and refused to get out of the car or follow instructions from officers.
He was eventually arrested after officers received further information from CCTV operators that showed he had been driving the car earlier in the evening.
When asked to provide a roadside breath sample, he refused.
The 17-year-old girl recorded a reading of 56 micrograms of alcohol on the roadside breath test, the legal limit is 35.
She was arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit, failing to stop for the police, and dangerous driving.
The 18-year-man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and failing to provide a sample for a roadside test.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:
“Always call it in if you see anyone go to drive whilst drunk or after drinking alcohol. Call 999 in an emergency or 101 if there’s no immediate risk. You can report it to Crimestoppers if you’d rather remain anonymous.”
