A fundraising 5k event is back this weekend for the first time in six years.
R U Taking the P…? is back! On Sunday 22 June hundreds of people will head to Rowntree Park in York for a special 5k race.
Back for the first time since 2019, the event aims to raise awareness of prostate cancer – a disease which more than 50,000 people are diagnosed with in the UK every year.
The event will also raise funds for York Against Cancer, a local charity helping people in York, North and East Yorkshire affected by cancer.
The 5K run was established by York hairdresser Brian Hughes, a founder of Knavesmire Harriers, who was inspired to fundraise after a friend lost his life to prostate cancer.
“It’s great to get awareness in men’s health out there again this year,” said Brian.
Event organiser, Max Burton, added, “After a six year break, it’s fantastic to be putting this event on again. Join us and help raise awareness of prostate cancer.”
Although previously only open to men, R U Taking the P..? is now open to anyone aged 8 and above.
The event aims to bring together members of the community to raise funds and awareness and help to make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer in our region.
The event is sponsored by Elovate and Pool Bridge Farm.
R U Taking the P…? will begin at 9am at Rowntree Park. It’s £25 to enter the race, and there’s a discount for multi-person entry. Entry for aged 8-16 is £12.50. Register your place online here.
