York High School

Students at York High are celebrating unprecedented success, as the school announces its best-ever GCSE results.

This year’s achievements mark a significant milestone, with a record number of students attaining top grades across multiple subjects.

A spokesperson for the school told YorkMix:

“Congratulations to every single student. They have truly earned this moment of celebration. York High School wishes all of our students the very best in their next steps, whether in further education, apprenticeships, or the world of work.”

They added, “A special congratulations should go to George B, Mia B, Isabella C, Nancy F, Harley G, Theo H, Jess H, Joseph L, Oscar O, Charlie O, Patrin R, Olivia R, Scarlett R, Robbie S, Lucas SR, Edward T, Phoebe W, and Kayleigh W, who have all achieved outstanding results.”

Ripon Grammar School

The future also looks bright for Ripon Grammar School students, who are celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE results.

Two 16-year-olds were on cloud nine after each achieving 11 grade 9s, the equivalent of exceptionally high A*s. Katy Thody, from Burton Leonard, and Yanxi Wang, from Ripon, also achieved an additional grade 8 apiece.

Other top performers include five students, Ray Cho, Thomas Simpson, Amelia Briggs, Alexis Ramshay and Archie Sculthorp, who achieved nine grade 9s, alongside further grade 8s and 7s.

These individual successes reflect an impressive overall performance at the school.

A substantial 93.9% of all grades awarded were 9-5s (the equivalent of A*-Bs) with 59.6% of all grades achieved being 9-7 (A*-As). Students from the 125-strong cohort gained a total of 472 top 9/8 (A*) grades.

Headmaster, Jonathan Webb, said:

“My congratulations go to all our students who have worked so hard for these impressive set of GCSE results, which come as the culmination of five years of academic endeavour.

“Well done to each and every one of them, their results provide a strong platform for future academic success. Thank you also to our dedicated staff, this is a testament to all their hard work and support.”

City of York Council congratulations

City of York Council education leaders have also praised students across the city on their GCSE results.

Cllr Bob Webb, the council’s Executive Member for Children, Young people and Education, said:

“I’d like to congratulate all the students who have received their GCSE and Key Stage 4 results today, and thank the school staff, parents and carers who have supported them throughout their studies.

“I also want to reassure students that if your grades weren’t quite what you were hoping for there are still lots of opportunities for you. Whatever your plans are for the future from this point on it’s important to focus on the unique skills and abilities that you bring; training providers and employers are interested in who you are as a person, not just exam results.

“There’s a wide range of support locally for the next steps in your journey and I would always encourage you to speak to your school first; they have supported you throughout the journey so far and they know you best to provide support.”
