Pix: Thousands cheer York 10K runners around the city

Thousands of spectators took to the streets to cheer on the many participants in the York 10K today.

The 6,000 runners brought colour, spectacle and cheer to a route taking in many of the city’s most famous landmarks.

It was described as an “unforgettable day” by organisers Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All.

Today saw three events take place: the Arla Protein York 10K, and the York Mini and Junior Runs.

YorkMix Radio’s Laura Castle was the host at the start and finish line at Knavesmire, and began the 10K with a countdown.

A rain shower did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of all involved.

A Run For All spokesperson said: “An unforgettable day for all who were there, the event was marked by the vibrant, celebratory atmosphere as the cheers of the crowds and the footsteps of the runners could be heard all around. “

In the men’s race, Jack Cummings was first to the finish line with an impressive time of 31:18. He was then followed by runner up Rory Dowd in 32:06 coming in second, and Adam Theaker in third with a time of 32:07.

For the women, Jemima Elgood triumphed with a time of 34:05, with Becky Briggs taking second place with a time of  34:48, and with a time of 35:44, Leila Armoush claimed third place.

Alongside the fabulous sporting achievements were equally remarkable fundraising efforts.

Participants were encouraged to fundraise for a chosen charity, or one of the event’s partner charities; the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Family Fund, RSPCA York, Harrogate & District Branch, Menfulness, Saint Catherine’s, St Leonard’s Hospice, York Against Cancer, York Down Syndrome Support Group, and Mind York.

More than just a day of running and fundraising, it also highlighted the incredible communities present in and around the city of York, as local running clubs, volunteers, and schools came together in full force to show their support for the runners.

The York Mini and Junior runs followed later in the day, where children of all ages and abilities took part in a display of determination and enjoyment.

Operations Director at Run For All, Tristan Batley-Kyle shared his thoughts on the day, “What an incredible day in York as the Arla Protein York 10K brought together thousands of runners, supporters and volunteers for a truly memorable event and the biggest York 10K to date.

“The energy on every part of the course was inspiring and it was fantastic to see so many people of all ages and abilities taking part.

“A huge thank you to everyone who made today possible – from our brilliant title sponsor, Arla Protein to our event partners, local residents, charities and volunteers.”

Lucy Hurrell-Morgan, Strategic Brand Manager for Arla Protein, said: “Taking part in this year’s York 10K was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate both fitness and community.

“At Arla, we’re dedicated to championing active lifestyles and helping everyone reach their personal best and congratulate everyone who participated in this year’s race.”

The Arla Protein York 10K is supported by the City of York Council, York Racecourse, YorkMix Radio, High 5, Up & Running, Coopah, Shokz, Gradwell, Marathon Photos Live, Project Servator, and Jog On.

Entries are now open for 2026, as the Arla Protein York 10K and Mini and Junior Runs are set to return on Sunday 2nd August.
