North Yorkshire Police are investigating the sudden death of a woman in her 60s, who was found at the bottom of a cliff near Whitby Abbey.
The woman’s body was discovered by a member of the public at 12.53pm yesterday (Thursday).
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, the coastguard, mountain rescue and lifeboat teams, were called to assist with the incident. It is believed that the woman fell from the cliff.
Due to the rocky location and high tide, mountain rescue teams assisted in recovering the woman’s body to the lifeboat, before it was taken to the lifeboat house.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident for the coroner’s report.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and the woman’s family have been informed and are receiving support.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:
“Witnesses to the incident or anyone with information that could assist officers, are urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 12250142097.”
Police have also confirmed that the incident is in no way connected with the sudden deaths of a man and a woman at the same location on Wednesday 30 July.
