York club to host free open days for you to try your hand at bridge

Whether you’re eight or eighty, a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, York Bridge Club is inviting you to discover the fascinating world of bridge at two special open days next month.

Visitors are welcome to drop in to see how the game is taught and played, meet members, and experience the warm, welcoming atmosphere at Yorkshire’s largest bridge club.

The open days will be on Wednesday, 3 September (1.00pm-3.30pm) and Saturday, 6 September (10.00am-12.30pm).

Highlights of our Open Days include:

  • A chance to play (no partner required) – either at a ‘social’ table, or in a free duplicate session
  • An opportunity to kick start your learning – our accredited teachers will be on hand to gently guide you into the fascinating world of bridge
  • Information about our free-to-join Youth Academy, nurturing the next generation of bridge players
  • Guided tours of our purpose-built, fully accessible, single-level club facility
  • Friendly conversations with members who can share what makes bridge – and York Bridge Club – so special
  • Light refreshments for all guests

Classes for new players start this September, so the open days are the perfect opportunity to explore whether bridge could become your new hobby, entry into a new social circle, or even the start of a competitive bridge-playing career!

Andrew Merrison, York Bridge Club Co-Chair/Head of Teaching, says: “Bridge has a wonderful way of bringing people together. It’s a stimulating and inclusive game – and our friendly club is a place where everyone can feel welcome.”
