Fire crews from York were called to reports of a bonfire in the woods yesterday evening (Saturday).
At 7:55 pm, firefighters attended the fire in Rowntree Park, which is confirmed to have been started deliberately.
They extinguished the flames using buckets of water and a knapsack sprayer, and Police were informed due to the nature of the incident.
The fire comes at a time when North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service have urged the public to follow safety advice during the current hot and dry weather.
The public have been urged not to light barbecues or campfires in open land or forest.
